This week was a weird mix of marathon recovery, travel, and racing. Monday I wasn’t terribly sore, but could tell that I had raced 26.2 recently. Tuesday I went to my weights/pump class and tried hard not to do too much hamstring work, which was unfortunately a major focus of the class. Thursday I was up at 3:45 AM for my 6 AM flight to Orlando. Thursday & Friday I spent in the Walt Disney World parks, Saturday I stayed off my feet reasonably well, and Saturday night I raced the RunDisney Wine & Dine Half Marathon. The race will get its own blog post soon, but I did end up pushing a little more than I thought I would. I ended up with a 2:28:42 finish, which is about what I did for the first half of the Indy Monumental Marathon.
The race was insanely fun, and so comfortable for me now. It’s my fourth time running it, so I know the course and exactly what to expect. Hopefully this will come in handy as the second half of the Walt Disney World marathon will follow a very similar course. We ended up closing down the after-party and I didn’t get to bed until nearly 5 AM! I slept in, but stayed out at the Magic Kingdom until nearly midnight Sunday night, then had the late flight home, getting home close to midnight last night. I took today to rest & catch up, but it’s time to get back out there tomorrow. LOTS of training needs to happen in the next seven weeks!
